Acoustic Beginner Guitar - Which One?

by Mark Thompson

If you are looking for an acoustic beginner guitar there are a number of different things, which you need to look at before making your purchase.

Certainly, if you have he money then you should invest in as good a quality first guitar as you possibly can. The more you actually spend on the guitar then the better the quality of the tone that comes from it and it will be easier to play.

Although there are plenty of good quality acoustic guitars for beginners available if you are looking for one of the most exceptional then Seagull S6 should be your first choice. Even though you will need to spend between $400 and $500 on one of these they are truly exceptional instruments. In fact, there are many professionals guitarists who first brought a Seagull S6 and still own it even though they have purchased other guitars since learning to play the instrument. However if you want to spend a little less on your first one then the Washburn D10s voted no 1 by Acoustic Guitar magazine may be more suitable. The Washburn D10s costs less than $500 so is only slight less expensive than the Seagull. Yet in most cases, those that can afford to will purchase either one of these as their first acoustic guitar.

If you have less than $400 to be able to spend on such an instrument then take a look at the Fender DG7, Yamaha F310 or Takamine G-240 ones. All of which are less expensive than the two previously mentioned but still provide you with good quality. But if you can only spend about $120 to $150 on your acoustic guitar then it may be time to look at the Epiphone DR-100. Then when you feel the time is right and you feel confident with the way in which you play and have the funds available you can purchase a much more expensive model.

What one should never do when purchasing an acoustic beginners guitar is buy one that costs $100 or less. The major problem with these kinds of guitars is not only are the poorly made but they can be extremely difficult to play especially if you are only just starting to learn. The reason for this is that the fingerboard and strings are often widely spaced so getting the right position to play them becomes much more difficult.

Yet if you are someone who only can afford to spend around $100 on their guitar then buy a second hand one instead. The best place to search for these is by visiting your local guitar store. As you will not only see what types of acoustic beginners guitars they have, but you will also be able to try them out as well. It is when looking at the guitars you will find that each comes with its own particular personality, which often has come from the person who has previously played it.

Also, keep in mind the saying “that you should never buy a guitar from a jerk”. In many cases, the way in which a guitar sounds and they way in which it plays will depend on the way it has been treated. The better a guitar has been cared for then the better it will sound. Plus when you try out any acoustic beginner guitar and it does not feel comfortable even though the sound and tone quality is great then go for another one instead.

Finally, when buying a used acoustic beginner guitar from the store get the sales person who is helping you to play it. Even if you cannot actually play the guitar yet you will soon be able to hear whether the sound quality on the guitar you are buying is good or not. Also, as these people do not realize they could be in fact helping someone with buying their acoustic beginner guitar who in the future may become a great guitar player.
