It is important that you tune up your guitar and test any other equipment before starting. Without the guitar being tuned properly it won’t matter how well you perform as it won’t sound right. Also don’t overlook the impotence of finding a place to practice that is free of distractions.

Don’t underestimate the importance of learning all you can about your guitar. Find out what every thing is called and be able to find it quickly. One of the best ways to learn to play guitar is to know your guitar. Each guitar is different but by getting to know your guitar you will find you enjoy playing it more.
Know your skill level
Be careful you don’t start too high you do not want to frustrate your self on the first day. Pick and choose something simple to start with, a lot of music tutorials start you off with a few easy strumming patterns and old songs. Starting too high will usually lead to you giving up so this is a very important step.
Play What You Love
Once you are past these stages it will be time to up the difficulty level.Seek to discover an artist you enjoy and are accustomed with and try and duplicate parts of there songs. Playing with confidence greatly improves your playing so pick out one song and learn it until you have it in your memory then play in front of a few friends.
