Leo Fender and “Doc” Kauffman are credited for the creation of the first, highly successful electronic musical instruments and could be said to have been the leaders of a musical revolution. Prior to their work with solid-body electric guitars, electronic pick-ups were placed on Spanish guitars which had hollow bodies and a sound box designed to amplify the vibrations of the strings without electrical amplification. A problem arose with that design in that the pick-ups gathered not only the strings vibrations to amplify electronically, but also the out-of-phase vibrations from the hollow-body’s sound box. What resulted was unwanted feedback that totally distorted the sound the musician wanted. Fender’s solid body guitars were able to pick up the sounds from the strings making amplified signals pure and clean, even at high volume.

Leo found another electronics enthusiast in C. O. (Doc) Kauffman and formed a company to design, manufacture and sell Hawaiian lap steel guitars and their amplifiers in the early 1940’s, named the K & F Manufacturing Company. K & F began making lap steel guitars in 1945 using their innovation of wound electronic pick-ups to gather the sound from the strings to feed it to the amplifier. The next generation of the company evolved to be the Fender Electric Instrument Company after Doc Kauffman left Leo Fender in 1946.

The first electric guitar Fender made was the Esquire, styled after the Rickenbacker Bakelite with a detachable neck. In 1951, Fender invented and marketed the Broadcaster, a new solid-body guitar with Spanish styling, the first to go into commercial production. The Broadcaster was later renamed the Telecaster to avoid legal problems with Gretch and their trademarked “Broadkaster” drum kit. Bass players were soon delighted to a Fender electric bass also in 1951, allowing them to have the freedom and flexibility of sound volume and tone control at their fingertips.

A few years after the Telecaster obtained its famous reputation, Fender released its hallmark vintage electric guitar, the Stratocaster. Being a market leader began taking its toll on Leo Fender and due to declining health, sold the Fender Musical Instrument Company to CBS (the Columbia Broadcasting System). From 1965 to 1985, the brand languished because of the apparent lack of interest the parent company had for music, musicians and the reputation of Fender. Many felt CBS failed to maintain innovation and the high quality standards set by Leo Fender during their two decade ownership. As a result, loyal business partners, company employees and investors wanting to return to original standards bought the company back and reinstated Leo’s original premise of making excellent musical instruments.

Although the present Fender company has come back to make extremely high quality musical instruments, the most prized Fender vintage guitars are those made up until January, 1965. Guitars made before January 5, 1965 were the original Fender masterpieces and those from that date until 1985 were a production of CBS. Master musicians and serious vintage electric guitar collectors highly desire Esquires, Telecasters and Stratocasters sporting Fender serial numbers from 1951 through 1964. Additional models like the Mustang introduced in 1964, the JazzMaster in 1958, the Jaguar, a new version of the JazzMaster introduced in 1962 are all rare finds and highly prized. In fact, the so-called “student” guitars like the Mustang, the MusicMaster and the DuoSonic of pre-1965 command high values because of their year of make and who made them.

Unfortunately, Leo Fender passed away March 21, 1991 at age 81 from complications of Parkinson’s disease but did get to see the success of his foresight and innovation. Fender had once again entered the top position of master guitar building and regained its name for superior musical instruments.

One of the most usual aspirations throughout the universe is to become a rock star. Sadly the vast majority can’t hold a note so singing is out of reach but if you teach yourself to play guitar then there is always a chance that you will achieve your dreams. All it actually takes is some determination and plenty of practice.

Thankfully the good news is that nowadays almost anyone can learn the guitar. In years gone by the cost of learning the guitar to a good level was out of reach for many as you really needed private lessons. Nowadays however there are plenty of sources where you can find information you need for far less.

A private tutor can still be a great way to learn guitar but plenty of the info can also be found in several places on the internet. For those who don’t want to use the internet the quality of books showing you how to play guitar has also greatly improved.

Finding the information however is just the first step. The sad truth is that even the most amazing guide or information ever written would be a complete waste unless you actually put it into use. Nothing is going to happen overnight but if you are determined enough and are willing to practice and then practice some more you can definitely teach yourself guitar.

Avoiding frustration is one of the most important things you can do to stop yourself from quitting so something you should definitely avoid is starting at anything other than the basics. You should practice and practice the basics until you are completely confident and then you will find learning more advanced techniques come a lot easier.

Without a good degree of motivation and determination then I have to say you will probably fail to teach yourself to play guitar successfully. None of the world famous guitar players that you have heard of picked the guitar up and succeeded with every step on their first attempt and you will be no different. Stick with it through the frustrations and be sure to keep practicing and there is no reason you cannot achieve your dreams.

by Garcia Thompson

This short article gives a woolly description as well as a more technical one to make you well-known with Relative Minors.

A relative minor is a musical scale that is “related” to a major scale. As they work together harmonically, thus they can be regarded as being in the same family. Relative minors provide a remarkable mode to move from a major to a minor key without too much of a jump or use of multiplex chord sequences and so they are considered as a well-set tool in songwriting.

Here is a more technical description:

The relative minor of a certain major scale is a scale that starts 6 intervals up and after that shares all of the same notes. Firstly, what is an interval? It is not easy to answer it exactly but you can say that an interval is a note in a scale. You can understand all this with the help of an example.
Let’s look at the scale of C ??” it is liked by most of the people because it has no sharps or flats. It comprises of followingnotes

C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C

We find that A is the relative minor of C by going up 6 notes, (C-D-E-F-G-A). So the possible notes we will apply for A minor are A-B-C-D-E-F-G-A.

Although we start on the note of A, all of the notes also exist in the C major scale.

Taking it a step further, looking at the scale in terms of half and whole notes, as in the Major Scale 101 lesson, for a relative minor we would apply the pattern:

W H W W H W W, or

2 1 2 2 1 2 2

You can apply this formula to figure out the relative minor scale for any major scale by starting at the 6th note and practicing it.

Now, to conclude, a brief note of a couple of fascinating facts about Relative Minors is given. Firstly, three various minor scales are there in western music ??” with a slight divergence in their formula. The scale above is actually a “Natural Minor” or “Pure Minor” scale - two names for the same thing while the other two are called “Harmonic” and “Melodic”. As their formulas differ from each other, so they do not share the identical notes as the associated relative major scale and are harmonically speaking not such a right match as the Natural Minor.

And finally, the Natural Minor (or Relative Minor) scale of a certain major scale is also known as the “Aeolian Mode”. Modes are a concept that we will discuss later on, but for now, you can say confidently that you have proper understanding of Relative Minors, Pure Minors, Natural Minors, and the Aeolian mode.

Acoustic Beginner Guitar - Which One?

If you are looking for an acoustic beginner guitar there are a number of different things, which you need to look at before making your purchase.

by Mark Thompson

If you are looking for an acoustic beginner guitar there are a number of different things, which you need to look at before making your purchase.

Certainly, if you have he money then you should invest in as good a quality first guitar as you possibly can. The more you actually spend on the guitar then the better the quality of the tone that comes from it and it will be easier to play.

Although there are plenty of good quality acoustic guitars for beginners available if you are looking for one of the most exceptional then Seagull S6 should be your first choice. Even though you will need to spend between $400 and $500 on one of these they are truly exceptional instruments. In fact, there are many professionals guitarists who first brought a Seagull S6 and still own it even though they have purchased other guitars since learning to play the instrument. However if you want to spend a little less on your first one then the Washburn D10s voted no 1 by Acoustic Guitar magazine may be more suitable. The Washburn D10s costs less than $500 so is only slight less expensive than the Seagull. Yet in most cases, those that can afford to will purchase either one of these as their first acoustic guitar.

If you have less than $400 to be able to spend on such an instrument then take a look at the Fender DG7, Yamaha F310 or Takamine G-240 ones. All of which are less expensive than the two previously mentioned but still provide you with good quality. But if you can only spend about $120 to $150 on your acoustic guitar then it may be time to look at the Epiphone DR-100. Then when you feel the time is right and you feel confident with the way in which you play and have the funds available you can purchase a much more expensive model.

What one should never do when purchasing an acoustic beginners guitar is buy one that costs $100 or less. The major problem with these kinds of guitars is not only are the poorly made but they can be extremely difficult to play especially if you are only just starting to learn. The reason for this is that the fingerboard and strings are often widely spaced so getting the right position to play them becomes much more difficult.

Yet if you are someone who only can afford to spend around $100 on their guitar then buy a second hand one instead. The best place to search for these is by visiting your local guitar store. As you will not only see what types of acoustic beginners guitars they have, but you will also be able to try them out as well. It is when looking at the guitars you will find that each comes with its own particular personality, which often has come from the person who has previously played it.

Also, keep in mind the saying “that you should never buy a guitar from a jerk”. In many cases, the way in which a guitar sounds and they way in which it plays will depend on the way it has been treated. The better a guitar has been cared for then the better it will sound. Plus when you try out any acoustic beginner guitar and it does not feel comfortable even though the sound and tone quality is great then go for another one instead.

Finally, when buying a used acoustic beginner guitar from the store get the sales person who is helping you to play it. Even if you cannot actually play the guitar yet you will soon be able to hear whether the sound quality on the guitar you are buying is good or not. Also, as these people do not realize they could be in fact helping someone with buying their acoustic beginner guitar who in the future may become a great guitar player.

by Matt Williams

Are you a music lover? You want to play by yourself ? Don’t wait just get ready. First step is easy one. You have to get one guitar. The next step is tuning of your guitar. your computer can tune your guitar with the help of online guitar tuner.

The online guitar tuner is nothing but a software. So you can tune your guitar in the computer with the help of this software. This is the fast and simple method.Without a proper tuning your guitar will sound like Eddie Van Halen guitars do.

If you know which string you choose to play you can easily use your online tuner. The standard tuning is EADGBD which follows in most of the songs played. Here E is the thickest tuned and next thickest is A and so on and again the thinnest is E.

Play your guitar into the microphone. the software will give the note information being played. Now if you want to move to a higher note you have to turn the turning key till you hear a higher pitch.Again pluck the guitar into the microphone till you reach to your desired note.

A basic guitar chord chart follows this kind of tuning. But musician have variety of tuning so that they can play songs easily. Among them On a basic guitar chord chart, this will usually be the tuning. One of them is called dropped D, or DADGBD.

An online guitar tuner is very useful when you are using a guitar tab online. This is a simplified way of showing how a song is played. Instead of notes on a staff, it is numbers along 6 lines, each one representing a string on the guitar. The number corresponds to a finger placing on the guitar.

Here is an example if the online tuner is showing number on 5 on the line which represents E string it means place the finger on the fifth fret and and play the guitar. This is the correct season to play guitar .

So, what are some easy songs to learn for beginners? Lots of Green Day songs feature just a few simple power chords, meaning holding down three strings and strumming them at once. One good song is \”When I Come Around\”, which uses only four chords, and will improve your rhythm. Stay in tune, and good luck!

Learning the guitar for the majority is a really rewarding and gratifying experience only it can also be frustrating. To learn to play music on guitar you will certainly need a couple of things in your arsenal to succeed.

Lamentably for those wishing to learn guitar there is no easy manner of doing so, although some methods are simpler than others. Whatever method you use one of the most principal things is to not become frustrated as this will rapidly lead to you giving up your new pursuit before it has actually began.

There is an well-known expression that is important for learning the guitar and it goes “practice makes perfect” and when learning to play guitar this expression has never been truer. No one ever picked up a guitar and was superb immediately. Whether your intention is to become a star or merely to be able to play your favorite songs then practice is crucial.

There are assorted ways to learn guitar ranging from books, videos, online courses and private classes. Each person has an opinion as to which one is the best but it is really down to your own individual preference as to which one is best for you. To succeed try and be certain you select the one that is right for you and not what someone is telling you is right for you.

Whatever you do you should invariably be certain that you study the basic principles until you are confident. Attempting to play at a high skill level before you are set will inevitably lead to frustration which will make you give it all in. Learning the fundamentals will likewise make it simpler for you to move up to advanced levels later.

As I said earlier practice is one of the most crucial steps when learning to play guitar but don’t over do the practice. If you practice to the stage where you’re no longer enjoying playing you will inevitably give up trying to learn. To avoid this seek to practice in tinier burst this way you should not lose enjoyment.

For anyone wanting to learn to play music on guitar there are several important elements to take into account if you desire to be successful. Ultimately as long as you have a little patience, are willing to practice and you have a good amount of determination then there is no reason you shouldn’t be successful.

A couple of the most popular ways of learning to play the guitar are books and learn to play guitar videos. In years gone by books have constantly been the most popular method but now that videos are more available they are pretty much neck and neck.

by Guy Taylor

There are of ways to learn to play the guitar. One increasingly popular method is the learn to play guitar video. In the past books have always been the most familiar manner to study guitar but in recent times video has certainly caught up and is today probably on an level keel in terms of popularity.

One on one coaching may be the best way of learning the guitar successfully but for most it is out of reach thanks to the reasonably high cost. Because of this video is the better way many will find to learn the guitar. One reason they have an higher success rate than books is that videos are far better at keeping the users attention.

Most study to play guitar videos occur in the MPEG format but you will also find some versions utilizing avi and midi formats. Each of these are compatible with Windows media player and that is why they’re very frequent choices of format. Before you use any videos to learn to play the guitar make certain that the format is compatible with the computer software you are utilizing.

Not all videos will teach in a style that you will feel comfortable with. For this reason I would propose trying to obtain a clip or demo of the video you are thinking of using.

The starting lesson should perpetually be about the basics, without the basics you will find it a lot more difficult to proceed on to advanced levels. Likewise attempting to commence playing higher levels sooner than your at that skill point will ultimately lead to frustration and thus destroying whatever enjoyment you may have studying the guitar.

Utilizing a one-on-one tutor can be a tremendous way to learn to play but it is quite expensive and also takes a fair sum of time, that is why video is such a fabulous option for so many people. What it misses in feedback and motivation it makes up for in price and the fact that you can fit it around your own individual time.

Learn to play guitar videos are a great way to learn the guitar if you cannot afford the higher price of a one-on-one instructor. They are affordable and they can be fit in around whatever form of schedule you may have.

Some methods of learning the guitar are better than others but none make learning the guitar completely easy. In my honest opinion the only way you will really discover the best method for you by trying things for yourself.

To help to get you started here are a few tips and tricks.

Don’t Underestimate Your Preparation

It is important that you tune up your guitar and test any other equipment before starting. Without the guitar being tuned properly it won’t matter how well you perform as it won’t sound right. Also don’t overlook the impotence of finding a place to practice that is free of distractions.

Gain Knowledge About Your Guitar

Don’t underestimate the importance of learning all you can about your guitar. Find out what every thing is called and be able to find it quickly. One of the best ways to learn to play guitar is to know your guitar. Each guitar is different but by getting to know your guitar you will find you enjoy playing it more.

Know your skill level

Be careful you don’t start too high you do not want to frustrate your self on the first day. Pick and choose something simple to start with, a lot of music tutorials start you off with a few easy strumming patterns and old songs. Starting too high will usually lead to you giving up so this is a very important step.

Play What You Love

Once you are past these stages it will be time to up the difficulty level.Seek to discover an artist you enjoy and are accustomed with and try and duplicate parts of there songs. You will find that the music for most bands and artist are available all over the place and it is a great way of learning the guitar.

Gain confidence

Playing with confidence greatly improves your playing so pick out one song and learn it until you have it in your memory then play in front of a few friends. The best way to learn to play guitar is to assert confidence in your self as the guitar is supposed to be enjoyed by everyone. It is not much fun sitting in a bleak room playing to your self.

I hope you learned something from this list and continue to play for a very long time, because the best way to learn to play guitar is to have fun and share it with other people.

Want to be a guitar legend? It's a long road but one of the most important steps is to find the best way to learn guitar in the first place. Each person differs from the next so it is good to know all of your options and that is the point of this article.

by Guy Taylor

Want to be a guitar legend? It’s a long road but one of the most important steps is to find the best way to learn guitar in the first place. Each person differs from the next so it is good to know all of your options and that is the point of this article.

Learning through the use of guitar books is the most common and amongst the thousands of books available there are some very good ones. Using books doesn’t have the highest of success rates as many simply do not have the patience to keep going when they encounter a slight problem but for those who do have a patient side it maybe an option.

Learning by ear is probably the least common way of learning guitar but those that try it and are successful with it do tend to find it far more enjoyable than any other method. It can be hard but it won’t cost anything to give it a go.

Having private guitar lessons from a personal tutor is another method of learning to play the guitar and without taking anything else into consideration this is the best way to learn guitar. However with things such as price and time taken into account it may not be the best method for everyone.

Finally learning to play the guitar by video is now becoming very popular. Videos are in many ways similar to books but because they are more involving and help you to keep a better focus they tend to have a higher rate of success than book.

The conclusion is that the best way to learn guitar really boils down to the individual. If time and money don’t come into it then a private teacher will most likely be the best method and if they aren’t freely available then videos in most cases are the preferred method of the majority.
